Spring in full swing

First off, very excited to announce that I’m joining the team at Urban Growers Collective (formerly Growing Power) for two programs: a youth program this summer in partnership with After School Matters, as well as an ongoing preschool garden program at Educare in partnership with the Ounce of Prevention Fund!

The youth program with ASM will take place at the Grant Park Urban Potager Farm– did you even know there was such a beautiful farm in Grant Park?! It’s kiddie corner to Buckingham Fountain. A must see! Cant wait to start this program at the end of July.

Today was my first day at Educare, it went great, and I was caught on camera! https://instagram.com/p/Bju0my7g7If/

At the preschool we had our annual end-of-year Farm Stand 🙂 The children sold a “power greens blend” to their families– a mix of lettuce, baby kale and chard for $5/bag. The kids painted a sign too! Was a fun event and a nice fundraiser for the garden.

At Chicago Youth Centers we planted two raised beds full with tomatoes, peppers, melons, cabbage, broccoli, kale, marigold, chamomile, zinnias, calendula and more. The beds already have an abundance of radishes, lettuce and peas that we planted earlier in the spring. Harvested a bunch of radishes! We had a blast adding more compost to the beds too. Also added trellising for the peas and melons to climb on.
